Friends for life

This is my life long friend Margo
.We have know each other since the 10th grade.
She picked up a freezer for me that my Daughter got me on Craig's list.
So Amy and I went to get it last Sunday.
That was the reason for our road trip back to St. Charles.
You can tell with these pictures we know how to have fun.

This is the only way to keep you eyes open for a photo. LOL

I was surprised by this wonderful gift from her. Can you tell she knows me very well.

Take me home country road

Are you tired of my road trips yet.
To day I am not going home to West Virginia. like in the song by John Denver.
But this house in the wood IS A HOME
I WAS GOING TO BUY 9 years ago.
It sets on 5 acres. Has over 1200 square foot. and is only 1 bed room.
As you can tell I was not an empty nester at the time.
But I wanted to be.
This house did have a detached guest cabin.
Also this work shop near the road. Where we could have turned it into a business of some sort.
This is not far from it.
Surprise We went to visit my chickens.
We had a raccoon and a skunk try to get our chickens. So we moved them to a friends for the winter.
They have lots of other chickens here to help keep them warm for the winter.
And look my friend found sunshine a hubby the other day.
He is beautiful.
You can tell they remember me.
They also have a Oberhasli goat that looks like a small dear .
Next door they have donkeys with the cows this year.

Sky Watch Friday # 3

This ia a road trip I took Sunday 11-23-08

About 12:30 pm Entering Jeff CityAbt 12:35 leaving Jeff. Pic taken on the Bridge over Mo river.
Abt 2:20 pm

Abt 2:25 pm

About 4:00 pm
The Starling picture was taken at my friends home. It would have taken 10+/_ pictures put together to show the mass of birds in the sky. There were 1000's. It was 1999 when I saw this for the first time.
These birds now flock in mass. And fill up trees. It is amazing to see the multitude.
These 2 pictures were taken about 4:15 pm. It felt like 9pm. I could not believe it was getting dark so soon. What was strange was this view with light was to the east. And west was dark.

Abt 4:17 pm
The massive amount of traffic in St. Charles is one thing I do not miss.
I love the 2 lane highways of Lake of the Ozarks area.
And the views on the country roads.
Where I am at now.

Yes I went back to Sr. Louis. I was able to see 4 friends.
What a joy it was. Will show pictures soon.

What I bought on my ride in the country

I got one of these new fangled devices that peal core and cut apples in no time at all.
OK, Why do I need one. Look 2 bushels of Golden delicious apples for only $10.00.
$5.oo a bushel What a bargain!!
This is so fast and safe. 12 apples in no time.
At first I thought $29.00 Was to much for this device.
Now that I used it it is worth it's wait in gold.
And time saving.
So I made my first apple pie
Oh, if you are like me keep band aids handy for cutting fingers on wax paper box.
Look I made a happy pie.
You are wonderful. I am so thankful for all my blog friends.
I wish I could give each of you a pie.
But for now please except my Virtual gift.

I love you all.
If you missed my road trip to get this please look below for the pictures.

Theres the fire department
Look he is waiting for us.
This is going to be my mini horse one day.

A ride in the country

Where do you think we are going today?
Humm.
I love the rolling hill sides with all the fresh hay.
All the fields dabbles with cows.

Hay we are here!

Yep it is a farm but what kind?
Could it have Wilber the pig?
And charlote the spider.
No there are clean pigs here.
Look they are smart.
one is distracting me as
the others grab the shirt right off my back. HE HE HE
I love it.
Oh my they even want to eat my shoe!
Now wheres the beef ?
I have to say I am impressed. The smell was no where near as bad as the turkey barn I went to. And they were well cared for piggies. They are 10 week old grocery store pigs. I learned allot.
And the farmer gets an A +++ award from me.

Things About Me

I have been Tagged.

Sue at Wite-Lilly has tagged me.
Do you remember I passed on my first blog award to her on 11-7-08
At her blog, I can see summer while we are in winter.
She is in Australia.

for the '6 Things About Me" meme
!. I have never liked my first name. It is an uncommon name for the area I grew up in.
But I go by the nick name Ernie or E
As my mom named me Ernestine.
The female version of my real dads name.

2. I did not grow up knowing my real Dad, He lived in Ohio. And His oldest son is named Ernie.
He also HAD A SON 3 YEARS OLDER THAN ME name What else Ernie or Ernest.
Do you see a pattern here? To 3 male and 1 female Ernie. lol
I would love to find this brother, His name is Ernest Albright. He grew up in Lincoln Co. Wv. He would be age 51 +/-. His mom died when he was little and was raised by grandparents. Is what I am told. I have tried to find him. But no luck. And I don;t know if he would want to meet me. His mom knew of me. But don't know if he was told.

3. I met my real dad in 1979. But we did not get to know each other. He was more like a dad to my hubby. They went fishing and guy thing. But on the year 2000. I flew back 3-6 time. And got to know him a bit before he died of mesothelioma. Cancer caused by asbestos linings in his work gloves.

now 3 positive things about me.

I. I was a sales person most of my life. I sold real estate insurance, And my favorite of all time. I had my own Pet shop The picture is after our sign was removed. I added type to the picture with our name.
You would have thought I would have taken a picture while we were running it. But it never occurred to me
to do that. This was so much fun. I always had new baby's to hand feed and spoil. I can not even count how many bird I raised till they were old enough to be sold.
2. I am a simple person. I never needed fancy cloths or was into shopping.
3 I am a self taught plumber, carpenter, electrician. By reading a book I rewired & plumbed this complete house. I love power tools. A sawzall and roto-zip are 2 of my favorite tools. My hubby has to barrow my tools as I have more than him.

I have to tag 6 people.
Here are the six blogging buddies I tag:
!. You
2. You
3. You
4. You
5. You
6. You
So If you want to play this Let me know.
Thanks
Grammy E

My New trash to treasure find

When I lived in St. Louis there was unbelievable things set out to the trash.
Where I live now. Nothing is thrown away unless it is unusable by any one.
This shelf is savable though.

It has one bar on the back side that is rusted through. I will clean it up paint it and put a piece if pvc plumbing pipe over it to hide and secure the bar. Then I have a bakers rack for free. As I have left over paint and pvc.

We will be having our Thanks giving gathering Saturday.
As my youngest has to work on Thanks giving day.
She just finished CNA classes last month. Now she is working at a nursing home. And she has already saved the lives of 2 people in the last 3 months. I am so proud of her.
Blessings to all.
Have a wonderful day!

Pretend it is summer

Today is Bloomin Tuesday at Jeans
Bur it is 22 degrees here at 6:47 am Tuesday 11-18-08 and nothing is blooming. Unless you count goose bumps. burrr.
So I am looking back on some of the spring and summer garden before I even started blogging.

This was May of 2008 when Ires was in bloom.
And I first started my upside down tomatoes.

As you can tell I love Hosta's
Hosta's in July 2006
The pink flowers are my Resurrection Lily's
The main hosta is called Wheaton Blue
This will be my new edition to my yard for 2009. I ordered and planted 20 bulbs that are already sprouted.
Lycoris radiata
L. squamigera Common names - Spider Lily, Surprise Lily, Hurricane Lily, Resurrection Lily, Magic Lily, Naked Ladies. members of the Amaryllis family.Warning: Parts of plant are poisonous if ingested.
Native to China and Japan; now widely naturalized in the southeastern United States. The flowers bloom in mid-summer or (August) for 2-3 weeks and plants are 2-3 feet tall. They require Full sunlight. Tolerates summer drought, but requires moisture during growing season. Reproduces by offset bulbs and requires a warm (60 to 70F) - cool (32 to 40F) - warm (60 to 70F) annual thermoperiodic cycle. Hardiness type: Tender III (Injured at temperatures below 35 degrees F , 2C) to Semi-Hardy (Injured at temperatures below 28 degrees F, -2C) when planted. My Climatic Zones 7 to 8 require mulch, There is a chance they will not make it here. Soil pH requirements: 7.6 to 7.8 (mildly alkaline) Propagation: By dividing rhizomes, tubers, corms or bulbs (including offsets)I have read that they may not bloom for years when disturbed.

Companion Plants:Coreopsis, Hemerocallis (yellow cvs.), Kniphofia (yellow cvs.), Leucanthemum (Shasta daisies), Peonies (white and yellow cvs.), Rudbeckia, Salvia, Verbascum (white cvs.), Buddleia, Hibiscus syriacus, Acer palmatum, Lagerstroemia.
Have a great Thanks giving!

Buyer beware

I learned a lesson in buying art this week.
This is a poster that is for sale.
It is very pretty.
But then I searched the name to find out if the price was good.
As I had bought another reprint of some thing else to find I could not found it no where else.
I found the artists name but not the art work.
But on this one.
I found this one all over. but it looked like this.
Claude Monet Le Grenouillere New York metro pic

So since the top one is a fake I made it look like I wanted.
Since in French Le Grenouillere means the frog
I put a frog in this picture.
And I added a few of my own touches.
Now I can sell my art work for the low price of 99.95. LOL
Or you can just right click on it and save it to your computer for free.

Have a great Thanks giving!

I was asked several times if they could eat them. I started out telling them this was like play dough.
Or clay. Plus it helped to have a cake already made or do this on a full belly. LOL
I am so thankful for this visit. And look forward to next Saturday. They will all be here again for a thanksgiving dinner.

Sharing a sun set

This was taken about 5:30 pm tonight.
I did not get the pictures in time for the pink colors that were spectacular.
This sky tonight is amazing.
A red haze every where.
Even the light in front of your eyes was in the red tone.
It was like something you would see on TV.
Happy SKy watch Friday.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What an amazing time to get his award
Denise at Shorty bears place gave it to me.

So I pass it on to you my New sky watch friends.
Because I love Sun rise and sun set.
And this is my first post on sky watch Friday.

And most of all to this goes to
Lisa of Laughing Orca ranch
for telling me to post this on SwF
She has a hot blog in New Mexico.
I love to read about all her adventures. And animals.

Recycled Seed starters

There is nothing blooming in my yard so
I decided to start some seed in the house.
I prefer to recycle and reuse. So I saved toilet paper rolls.
You fold them in half, then open them up and fold in half again to create a square.
You can cut them in half again to make 2 tubes or leave tall for 1.
Cut slits about 1/2 inch in all 4 sides to form a box bottem
Now you can use tp around them with a rubber band or find a container like this. The yellow tray and insert is from fresh chicken they cut up and called chicken tinders. I washed them well so not to pass on germs from raw meat. I can put water in the bottom tray and wick it to the plants . I can put this in plastic like a green house to sprout seed. then uncover to grow. With this tray it held the rolls together so I did not need the rubber bands.
But for now I have a used taco salad container and it holds the insert and 2-3 full size tubes. I put water in the bottom and lid on top for now. I hope to grow my own salad in doors. I will try this with some flower seed and see if I can grow a green thumb. For indoor plants. After the seed sprouts I will show you how to make your own arrow garden out of recycled things and Store bought light. or you can look at this link for another persons ideal. My way will not use a metal coffee can as I do not buy them and would not risk my hands on cutting the can. But the rest of there Ideal is great.

This is one of my favorite blooms from this summer
This is like Stella d'Oro a daylily It is a re bloomer.
It gives you Orange/yellow color blooms from May-July.
But this is more orange than yellow.
This was a gift from my first new friend in this town I live in now.
Her name is Bobbie Joe.

Today is Jeans Bloomin Tuesday, Stop by and see what she has bloomin.
