Chicks week 2

These chicks are growing so fast you can almost see them grow before your eyes.

I am glad I only bought 3. I was going to order 50. But I have learned allot from these 3 They are Cornish X Cross used for Meat Chickens. All the chicken we buy at the grocery store are this breed of chicken. They sit around and only move to get food and water If they are up for more than a few minutes they are breathing heavy when they sit back down.
Today they had there first dominant chest butt. As in I am first to eat you wait your turn. Breakfast seems to be king or Queen of the corner. Where they sit and watch me all the time. They like to be petted and talked to. There wing feathers are starting to open. There body's are so big the baby down is not fully covering there body. They look naked in some places. Especially there new large rump. It is bigger than there crop.

product review 1 of 2

This is a free product review not a paid advertisement.
I received a Swiffer® Sweeper To try out.
I bought one of these in the dry form when my Grandson was small. back in 2003 maybe. He loved to run around and dust my hardwood floor with it. And it saved me allot of time & energy.
The one I received has both wet and dry pads.

I have had this for a while. I just decided my daughter would be a better judge for the product. So She will cover the review after she puts it to the test at her home.
You can learn more about it at http://www.swiffer.com/en_US/home.do

Here is Amy's put it together commercial. She had fun with this.

BENEFITS: The Swiffer Sweeper gives your home a complete clean compared to a traditional mop and broom. Swiffer Sweeper can be used on dry, hard surfaces including: all waxable and non-waxable linoleum, vinyl, ceramic and finished wood floors. *Do not use on unfinished oiled or waxed wooden boards, non-sealed tiles or carpeted floors.

Wet Cloths are perfect for:

My world is blooming

It has been so long since I had a bloom.

I have daffodil Hyacinths and Crocus at the same time this year.
And a camellia I bought in Texas.
How awesome to see green grass and blooms in March!
My forsythia is just full of spring blooms.
We had snow Saturday night
And now on Monday it is 70 degrees.

Amy made Jozlyn her new Easter dress by hand. She is so proud of this that she could not wait for me to wake up to show me the photos. She is in pink camo with a black bow.

Breaking news:
Tessa called and her ultrasound said It's a boy due July 28.2009
That will be Grandson #3 and Grandkid #4 for me.

Camera critters 10 & funny Friday

I remembered this old joke in the past when I found the perfect photo to go with it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

A young man named John went to visit
his 90 year old grandfatherPhotobucket in a very secluded, rural area .

After spending a great evening chatting the night away, the next morning John’s grandfather prepared breakfast of bacon, eggsPhotobucket and toast.Photobucket

However, John noticed a film like substance on his plate, and questioned his grandfather asking, ‘Are these plates clean?’

His grandfather replied, ‘They’re as clean as cold water can get em.

Just you go ahead and finish your meal, Sonny!’

For lunch the old man made hamburgers.Photobucket Again, John was concerned about the plates as his appeared to have tiny specks around the edge that looked like dried egg and asked, ‘Are you sure these plates are clean?’

Without looking up the old man said, ‘I told you before, Sonny, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now don’t you fret, I don’t want to hear another word about it!’

Later that afternoon, John was on his way to a nearby town and as he was leaving, his grandfather’s dog started to growl, and wouldn’t let him pass.

John yelled and said, ‘Grandfather, your dog won’t let me get to my car’.

Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV, the old man shouted, "Coldwater, go lay down now, ya hear me?
By this time John was turning all shades of green. Photobucket
I found the perfect photo for Coldwater.Photobucket

Happy Sky watch Friday

The first photo is day break in the cattle field.Across from my home in Missouri.
The mist on the ground was so thick you have to enlarge it to see the cow.

The video is on Hwy 10 in New Orleans. We could see the largest bridge in the world to our left and a new bridge being built on the right. There was now way but from the air to capture such a sight. It had a train and cars going across the bigest one. With a lift in the middle to let boats from the Ocean pass.
Happy Shy watch Friday

An Awesome Thankful Thursay !

Today marks 1 year of happy thoughts!
I have made it through the winter with no blues and every day had some positive energy . I complected my bucket list for 2009.
All that is left is to get our farm in August.
I am not normally one for public prayer but
I thank GOD today for changing my life so much this year.
I went from the point of total depression and Illness to seeing the Ocean in person.
My husband has changed a bit to. We spoke on the phone every night for 2 weeks. I made him talk to all his family that we were visiting. So he may go on the next travel adventure. He is now more interactive with us. And has held the new grandbaby Jozlyn for the first time. He went to Amy's for the BBQ Sunday with no negative complaints about having to leave the house.
We went from Missouri to Arkansas Texas New Orleans Dolphin Island. Near Birmingham Al. And 2 wonderful nights in a log cabin in Desoto state park in Fort Pane Alabama. As soon as I saw the porch swing on the screened in porch. I called home and said I am not leaving here. I loved every minute of this adventure. We then went to Murfreesboro Tennessee and spent 3 days with hubby's niece and her wonderful family . I met blog friend Carla and her wonderful family. We spent the night with her. We also saw parts of Mississippi and Kentucky Illinois. But did not spend any time there. This is my self portrait of me at the ocean. My sister in law could not walk that much. So I saw things that she could not. I was amazed that I could walk this much with out allot of pain. I was in shorts from March 4 to March 14. Then came home to spring. I am in short as I write. This was a trip of a life time.

I conclude with.
I am thankful for my family and friends.
I love you all ! Thank you for your support and kind words this year. You made a big difference in my life.

International Year of Astronomy 2009

I started looking at the Farmers Almanac site and ended up at Hubble skywatch site today
I found that four hundred years ago, Galileo turned a telescope toward the night sky and launched the field of astronomy. To celebrate this anniversary, 2009 has been declared the International Year of Astronomy (IYA).
I learned Galileo did not invent the telescope. It was already in use to watch the sea on ships. But he was the first person to look at the sky with it.
I decided to order 2 of the Galileoscope™ it is a high-quality, low-cost telescope kit developed for the International Year of Astronomy 2009 orders for the Galileoscope are now being taken at www.galileoscope.org, and delivery of telescope kits will commence in late Apr.

I thought this would be a fun thing to do with the Grandkids and maybe hubby.
The new chicks have names now. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Breakfast is flying lunch is half way up and dinner is in the oven.

Life at home

It was way too windy today to work on the garden.
My youngest daughter Tessa and her son Cullin came in Sunday and spent the night. We had a great BBQ and birthday tea party for Lady Katherine. Her birthday is April 5, 2009. And I will put up the video and photos on that day for her. She is a wonderful blog friend. And she would love it if you too would do a tea party for her. Stop by her blog and say hi. Link in her name above.

Then Monday Tessa and I took Cullen to the Mennonite store in Excelsior, Mo. We had to stop and talk to the milk cow and see the horse's drink from the creek. The one cow was so heavy she could barley walk. The others came to the fence to see us. It was fun. I took the photos with my cell phone camera. Some how the best ones are when my camera is left home.

A B& W copy

We found lot's of good deals I ordered 45 pounds of fresh cut chicken breast for $55.00. And will pick them up Saturday. And bought the potatoes below. We went to a few feed stores and saw bunny's, turkey and chicks. I bought these 3 to test the water, and see if I can be a chicken farmer. I will be getting Dottie the Barred rock hen back soon. Sun shine did not make it through the winter. So I will only have 1 egg layer for now.

I will soon add more vacation photos.

Learning to garden by the moon

I am learning to garden by the moon.
And recording data here with links to where it came from in color purple .

Many old-time farmers and gardeners swear by planting in accordance with the moon phases
Some of the rules these early gardeners strictly adhered to included…
1.For an abundant crop, plant your potatoes while the moon is dark (not at night, but during the day!).
2.Plant your seeds within two days of a full moon to enable quick germination.
3.To avoid failures do not plant anything on the day of the New Moon or Full Moon.
4.Pull your weeds during the darkened new moon, to prevent them growing back.
Now, while these rules should be taken with a pinch of salt, especially the one about the weeds not growing back, there is at least a grain of truth in most of them. Just as the moon controls the tides, it is believed that it also influences the water tables within our soil and sap within our plants, this combined with moonlight is thought to steer growth rates.

Planting by Moon Phase Type of Crop When to Plant Moon Phase
Today is a Waning moon: it occurs midway between the new and full moon.
Waning Crescent Moon, September 21, 1984 (tycho.usno.navy.mil) Pictures, Images and Photos
Moon Phase: today
Waning Crescent Moon: occurs between the full and new moon. “Waning” means fading or going away. The moon is simply moving into position closer to the sun
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
When the moon is waning, the earth is inhaling and absorbing. The growing energy is pulled down towards the roots. This is the time to water, or use natural fertilizers which will be well absorbed by soil and into the plant, as well as hoeing and weeding.
Sow crops that produce their yield below ground. This includes root vegetables such as beetroot, carrots, parsnips, potatoes, onions and turnips.
Traditionally some people plant potatoes on Good Friday falls on April 10, 2009. Unlike some holidays that occur the same date year after year, Easter is determined by the moon. It is the first Sunday after the first full moon of the spring.
++++++++++++++++++++++
My weather condition. Very Windy! some mild rain as I write , Partly Cloud Temp: 73°F Humidity: 31% Wind Speed: S 18 mph Gust 41 MPH
Barometer: 29.8 in. Dew point: 41° Heat Index: 76°F
Sunrise: 7:08 AM CDT Moon Phase: Waning Crescent Moon
Sunset: 7:25 PM CDT Normal High: 60°F Normal Low: 36°F
Tonight. Chance of rain 60 percent. Lows around 60f South winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts to around 35 mph..
By Saturday Lo: 35°F So I will have to cover crops for possible frost.

A general overview of the signs
Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio are water signs (wet) and are generally good times to plant leafy things.
Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are Fire signs (warm/hot) generally good for planting fruiting things.

No dig garden 1

My no dig topsoil garden
I will be gardening by the moon phases today I am doing a few red potatoes.
March 21 - 22 is Root Crops, example Horseradish, Sweet potato

I started by buying 30 bags of top soil bout $40.00 worth. I laid them double wide around one side of the garden. the photo to the right shows how you can put them in fount of your flowers and hide the bags with mulch later.
Then I cut an x in the bottom of the bag and flipped it over.

I cut an x and a square in the top and mixed in cow manure and peat moss. I place the potato 1 per a bag and pulled the plastic back up around it. so It will not be fully exposed to the elements. I will place mulch over the bags and a plastic hoop house to protect it from frost for now. I will show more tomorrow. as the 23 - 25 of march is Flower crops, e.g. beans, peas for moon gardening. I will plant broccoli . 4-6 seed per a bag.
You can grow most any thing that is not a deep root crop this way. Corn is one that need deeper roots. but if you work the dirt below the bag and open the split under the bag for the roots to go deeper any thing can be grown this way.

IT'S Spring !

Today should be Thankful Thursday!
Lot's of miracle's have happened here.
Hubby picked up baby Jozlyn for the first time.
He also is talking more.
So my vacation has been more than a blessing in many ways.

The new pup is down to 3 name choices Angel, Allie, Aussie. or Triple A, LOL.

I came home to seed's sprouted for my garden Thanks to Amy. And I have a sago palm from Houston Texas. Azaleas were only .99c in Bellingrath Alabama. My new Camellia japonica "Kramer's supreme" was 1/2 price $14.00 in Texas. Some of my spring mix lettuces is growing on its own from last year. The forsythia is in full bloom. Crocus daffodil and hyacinth are in bloom.

Hubby is cooking fresh pork chops for dinner. Amy had these 2 butchered last Tuesday. They weighed in at 550 pounds together. One was named bacon and the other was pork chop. Amy dropped by with a bit of the meat today. I told her I wanted to shop at Amy's market.
Have a great day and remember to Laugh and Play.

New Orleans 1

Today is Canal Bourbon & Royal street photos.
The photos start off with a bit of entering La. The first bridge we encountered was amazing. If they had snow no one would make it up this bridge. Most of the drive was on raised bridges with water below. When we entered New Orleans We had our first glimpse of the Oceans coming into a bay or lake. They had the biggest bridge I have ever seen. I will show photos of the bridge in another post. We stayed 2 nights. here. The Canal street motel was only $35.00 a night with free parking. It was bargain #1. Hotel ratings was a 2. But for the price I did not care. Our room was clean. Our first morning we woke up to the elevator broke. We had to walk up and down 4 flights of steps 2 times. But I was so thankful I did it. And survived with no pain. When we came back from the swamp tour that night the elevator was fixed. So all was well. We had breakfast at a wonderful pancake house down the street. We were going to ride the tram but it was not feasible. It required more walking than my sister in law could do. So we did not do any of the haunted tours. Or walk any of the streets. Bourbon and Royal was amazing. Every thing was so close and tall. Parking was an issue. So we just drove around.
Taking photo's was hard too. You were so close to the buildings. All I could do is street views. But LaLaurie Mansion I got out of the car to get better shots. This home is Owned and for sale by Nicolas Cage. The home has a very bad past and is said to have hundreds of tortured souls haunting it.

A little bit of Texas

Texas was mostly a visit for friends and family. I am so thankful for this trip. I met Carla and her wonderful family. My Brother in Laws family. And saw lot's of cow, horses. And most of all sun. I was in shorts till I hit Tennessee on March 13.
We spent all our time in Houston with family. The highways were enough to make my sister in law upset. As she live there 20 years ago. But did not know her way around. They changed them so much. I was happy just to get to know my husbands family. And bird watch in the back yard. Temps were up to 81 degrees. I was given a sago palm to bring home. Our next stop will be New Orleans.

Arkansas 2009

Arkansas is one place I will go again. I loved Hot springs ! We had a quaint hotel room. It had the most comfortable bed I had ever slept in. The room was only $63..00 a night including tax. We started the day with a great soak in a hot tub. The on to a sauna box like you would see on TV where they close metal doors around you neck. like on old TV shows. Then off to being wrapped in hot towels. And at last the Swedish massage. I want to do this again ! We then drove to a pancake restaurant. And would not recommend it to others. Then off to see President Clinton's child hood home. It was not open to the public but you could take photos. Then off to the gator petting zoo. I did not include all the other animals there. I am saving them for Camera critters on Saturday. But we loved every minute there. I fed deer and other animals. We did not have time to go to the crystal mines and hunt for treasure. Maybe next time. As we were leaving for Texas we saw the forest on fire. And I called 911 to find it was a controlled burn. So we drove on with fire on both sides of our road. it was a bit scary. But what an awesome sight. I stopped at Lowe's and found a Camellia bush like the one at our hotel. It was half price. So I only paid about $14.00 for one of my own. What a deal !

Who could say no?

Who could say no to this face ?
I was almost home this morning when approached by this litter of pups.
So I took the dingo above. She is adorable. I brought her home knowing my grandson lost his dog. And he said papa please can I have your dog ?
Papa had fun with him. He said you want my new dog Grammy brought home from her vacation. He was like. YES PLEASEEEEE!
So he has a sweet new Australian Blue Heeler.
I have had a trip of a life time. I will start sharing photos and story's soon as possible. I took in excess of 2-3000 photos. But will not up load near that many. lol.
I saw people, Gators, dolphins, turtles, snakes, deer, cows, horses, birds, goats, flowers, trees, rocks, stones, boulders, and waterfalls. Not to mention the gulf of Mexico. My feet were in the ocean.
Talk again tomorrow.
Good night all , missed you !
