We finally had a day with out rain. So we took a drive to Bagnel Dam The water flow is worse than last spring. The Osage river is raging with unbelievable force in the currents. If is way out of it's banks. Every one was out with poles in hand. It was a big catch day.
The water is pounding out of the top as the other levels are under water.
The blue herring are here in mass quantity's.
They are lined up like the guardians of the wall.
They are catching the fish that are being slammed against the walls.
These herring are are collecting floating food over and area that was there island.
The pigeons are watching from ever hole in the wall.
I think this is where they nest also.
you can even see some of the larger fish such as this 3-4 foot gar being tossed about.
This spoonbill was also tossed. Normally this are is lined up with monster size fish.
Even the deer were out.
So I decided to take a look at a place full of deer. You have to go down the road with the castle.
make a left at the waterfall.
Then turm right at the gravel road. I was right they are out today.
Have a wonderful day and remember to laugh and play.

Such awesome pictures. I love to fish.
What elegant guards the heron are!
Great photos of the dam and fish. I'm glad to see the deer are out, too.
Looks like you had a great day outdoors. :o)
Grammy I enjoyed your beautiful pictures!
Glad you got a chance to go out and play. All rain and no sun makes me grumpy! I loved fishing when I was young. Except that my brothers always caught more fish that I did. And theirs were bigger. And they weren't afraid to take them off the hook.
Nice pics. I like the deer and the castle. Have a wonderful weekend!
I remember when my Uncle Bill would fish the Osage when the spoonbill were running. He has caught forty and fifty pounders and brought to us before. They always amazed me...fish without many bones. I still remember the great taste of Osage Spoon Bills.
Wonderful pictures!
Hi Grammy, Looks like a delightful day!!! I know you are thrilled to have a day without rain. That river is really out of its banks. Beautiful pictures of the deer. Seems like everyone was outside on a beautiful, rain-free day!!!!
We got home this evening and had a wonderful couple of days in the North Carolina mountains.
Hugs,
Betsy
Hi Grammy! Your post brought back some wonderful childhood and young adult memories for me. I went fishing with my parents a lot in the Osage River and in the lake area around Bagnel Dam. I remember one Spring when there was so much rain that it caused the Osage to raise so quickly that the fish were all floating on top of the water or laying on the banks, gasping. We took our boat out, even though there were trees, etc floating in the strong current, just to see this strange happening. We went home with a lot of BIG catfish. :-) I have never experienced anything like that, since.
You have a wonderful week, and Thank You!
Those fish are HUGE !!!
Great photos of the raging river ... clearly shows nature's power !!
Lovethe photos of the deer..
